Pasadena Marathon: This will be bollixing up traffic from about midnight Saturday until 5 PM this afternoon with rolling closures of several major streets. Particular intersections to look out for are Altadena Drive, Allen Avenue, and Hill Avenue at Mountain Street; and Lake Avenue and Los Robles Avenue at Washington Boulevard. There's a map of the route available here and the Pasadena Sun has a good rundown of what to expect.
Churches and synagogues affected by the race have a page of their own here to figure out what to do. (And we hope some Baha'is rap them on the knuckles for spelling it "Bai Hai," like it's a tropical drink. Sheesh!)
Museums of the Arroyo Day: If you're looking for something fun to do with the kids -- or without -- today is also "Museums of the Arroyo Day." There is free admission to the Gamble House, Heritage Square, LA Pollice Museum, Lummis Home and Pasadena Museum of History. They probably shouldn't have scheduled this on marathon day -- just a thought.
Partial eclipse: Things should start getting interesting about 5:24 PM, as a partial eclipse of the sun takes place (86%/79% eclipse, depending on how you measure it). It should reach maximum coverage at 6:38 PM, and will exit the sun's path at 7:42 PM. The Pasadena Sun has (partial) details (Sun .. partial ... that's a joke), and you can start at this NASA website for more.
