The state tax increase backed by Gov. Jerry Brown will prevent a $5 million cut in state funding for the Pasadena Unified School District this year.
But the measure will not prevent school district budget reductions of $10.3 million to $12 million during the 2013-14 school year, according to Gundry.
“The fiscal situation in PUSD remains dire," a statement by Gundry reads. "The combination of a structural deficit and declining enrollment will force the district to make an estimated $10.3 million to $12 million in cuts for the 2013-2014 school year, depending on future tax revenue from the state.”
